Those who suspect their cell phones have been targeted using Israeli spyware Pegasus and are willing to cooperate with the investigation can now turn to a committee appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the matter.

scandal. In a major newspaper ad, Judge Raveendran’s panel asked people to contact them by January 7.

The Pegasus scandal sparked controversy last year, and Israeli spyware was reportedly used to target opposition politicians, journalists, and constitutional office holders, among others. Among the alleged victims were Rahul Gandhi and several politicians, including cabinet ministers, industrialists Anil Ambani and judges like Judge Arun Mishra.

The panel asked citizens who have “reasonable grounds to suspect” that their cell phones have been compromised due to “specific use” of NSO Israel Group’s Pegasus software to contact them.

Those approaching the panel were asked to provide “the reasons why you think your device may have been infected with the Pegasus malware”. They should indicate if they would be able to allow the technical committee to examine the device. said the committee.

People who suspect their device is infected should email the panel at [email protected] by noon on January 7. malware requires further investigation, then the committee will ask you to authorize the examination of your device, ”the committee said.

He also said the committee would acknowledge having received the device and would also manufacture and give the complainant a digital image of the phone. The collection point would be in New Delhi and the cell phone would be returned at the end of the investigation.

The Supreme Court had appointed the panel of experts to determine whether the Center had used Pegasus spyware to spy on citizens, saying the government could not always obtain a “free pass” while raising the specter of ” national security ”. The panel members were Dean Naveen Kumar Chaudhary of the National Forensic Sciences University, Professor Prabaharan P of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Professor IIT-Bombay Ashwin Anil Gumaste.
