J&K police hand over 10 PDP leaders for violating Covid restrictions
Srinagar, January 8 (IANS): Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday registered an FIR against 10 leaders and activists of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for organizing a public rally on the anniversary of the death of the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the town of Bijbehara in southern Kashmir.
FIR was registered at the Bijbehara Police Station under IPC 188 (disobedience of order duly promulgated by an official) and 269 (unlawful or negligent act capable of spreading infection of any life-threatening disease).
The case was registered on the instructions of the executive magistrate (Tehsildar) to the police officer of the police station concerned.
PDP leaders, including former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, attended a public rally in the town of Bijbehara on Friday to mark the 6th anniversary of the death of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, leader of the PDP and former chief minister .
Reacting to the police action, Mehbooba Mufti said on his Twitter page: âThe restrictions of Covid-19 apply only to the PDP. That says a lot about the cheeky prejudices of the J&K administrator against my party “.
