Reminder: how and when to contact the police

Moreton Police are noticing community members are slow to report crimes through police channels and are instead turning to social media in the first place.

We would like to remind everyone to report a crime through an appropriate police-monitored channel as soon as possible, to improve our ability to respond in a timely manner.

Social media can let your friends and family know what happened, but it doesn’t help police investigations.

Knowing when and how to contact the police may have changed over the years; Gone are the days when you only had one phone number to report a crime in your neighborhood.

Please read below for a reminder on the best way to report a crime.

Triple zero (000)

If you are in danger or a crime is happening, call Triple zero (000).

This number should only be used in an emergency at this time and if you need urgent police intervention.

If you have information for the police or to report a non-emergency incident, contact Font link to 131,444 or provide information via the online form 24 hours a day. More information is available here.

Crime Stoppers

You can anonymously report information about a crime to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community voluntary organisation, by calling 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24 hours a day.

Other tracks

Although using social media forums to report suspicious behavior can be seen as having its benefits, it is not a good way to report a crime.

The police do not benefit from any information outside of the channels listed above or by contacting your local police station directly.

By sticking to the reporting tools and numbers listed on the QPS website, police can better serve the community and respond to incidents in a timely manner.

If you have any information for the police, contact Policelink by providing information using the 24-hour online Suspicious Activity Form at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.

Report crime information anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Call 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestoppersqld.com.au.
